Project: Exiles from the Bohemian lands in Wittenberg during the Thirty Years’ War
My research project focuses on the presence and activities of exiles from the Bohemian lands in Wittenberg between 1618 and 1648. It examines the intellectual, confessional and social networks that developed between scholars expelled from the Kingdom of Bohemia and the Lutheran scholarly community in Wittenberg.
The focus is on their relationships with the University of Wittenberg, with printers and publishers, and with theologians and humanists. The project investigates the significance of the Bohemian exiles for denominational and intellectual exchange between the Bohemian lands and the Electorate of Saxony, and how their networks and identities developed whilst in exile.
